Legal mobilization is an effort to peaceful conflict resolution in societies with inevitable conflicts. It thus can contribute to the consolidation of democracy and the rule of law. In order to analyse its possible impacts, legal mobilization has to be put in its social and political context. Taking Erhard Blankenburg’s work on individual legal mobilizations as a point of departure, this paper proposes a classification of legal mobilization that embodies individual and collective as well as discursive and judicial modes of action. This perspective enables the analysis of interactions between different forms of action. Especially the consideration of discursive mobilization helps to understand and explain judicial mobilization.
